Barbara Covan Wilson

Mrs. Barbara Covan Wilson, age 79, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018 in Pensacola, Fla.

She was a native and life-long resident of Century, Fla. She was a retired lunch room manager at Northview High School, Century High School, Bratt Elementary and Century Elementary with thirty-one years of service. She was a member of Byrneville Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ellen Covan; one son, James Michael Wilson and three daughters, Sharon Denise Odom, Teresa Marie Jordan and Mary Kathryn Black.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, James M. Wilson of Century; one daughter, Beth (Kevin) Beck of Lake Mary, Fla.; two sisters, Brenda (Tommy) Cushing of Pensacola and Diane Dennis of Wetumka, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Caleb, Jacob, Sarah, Jessie, Lindsey, Kasey, Jessica and Nicholas and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 31, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Byrneville Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Hawkins officiating. Burial followed at Byrneville Methodist Cemetery.

The family received friends Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Rayburn Knowles, Pete Norton, Bobby Holland, Marcus Mathis, Robert Smith and Randy Murph.

Gregory Keith Hastings

Mr. Gregory Keith Hastings, age 57, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 in Pensacola, Fla. He was a native and life-long resident of Brewton, Ala. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, loved his dogs, daughters, and liked biking and Alabama Football. He was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Annise Hastings.

Mr. Hastings is survived by his two daughters, Heather (Lucas) Chavers of Cantonment, Fla. and Daphne Hastings Ledkins of Flomaton, Ala.; three brothers, Donnie (Sandy) Hastings of Brewton, Terry (Vivian) Hastings and Jeff (Fonda) Hastings of Flomaton, Ala.; five grandchildren, Ashton Gatwood, Jayden Ledkins, Jordan Ledkins, Claire Chavers and Hailey Chavers.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Headley officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Cemetery.

The family received friends Monday, September 3, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Lucas Chavers, Lee Merritt, Robert Burkett, Dale Law, Ray Owens and Randal Blair.

Honorary pallbearers were Roger Emmons and Daniel Evans.

Velma Lucille McGhee Crocker

Mrs. Velma Lucille McGhee Crocker, age 76, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018. She was born in Atmore to the late Levi and Treacy McGhee. She was a faithful member of Atmore Apostolic Church and a member of the Poarch Creek Indians.

She was preceded in death by infant son, Frank Crocker Jr,; her parents; two brothers, Fred Lee McGhee of Atmore and Leo McGhee of Frostproof, Fla.; six sisters, Carly Dalrymple, Imogene Sheets, Martha Wilson, Myrtis Kinman, Eva Nell Burkett, and Donna White, all of Atmore.

Mrs. Crocker is survived by two daughters, Lori (Kevin) Waters of Fairbanks, Alaska and Candace (Bryan) Fayard of Flomaton, Ala.; four grandchildren, Peyton and Paige Findley and Emily and Curt Fayard, all of Flomaton; one great-grandson, Finn Fayard of Flomaton; four sisters, Helen Hallman, Deloris Kelley, Judy McGhee, and Eldnar (Shirley) McGhee, all of Atmore and numerous other loved ones.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Atmore Apostolic Church. Bro. Tim James officiating. Burial followed at New Home Cemetery.

The family received friends Monday, September 3, 2018 from 7 p.m. until time of service at Atmore Apostolic Church.

Pallbearers were Stephen McGhee, Rodney Exum, David A. Kinman, John English, James Roberson and Greg McGhee.

Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Manning, Jr., Levon McGhee, Derrick McGhee, Aubrey Roberson, Logan Boatwright, Allen Smith, Travis Smith, Scott Jackson and Trent Jackson.

Herman (Shane) Shaw

Mr. Herman (Shane) Shaw, age 53, of Evergreen, Ala., passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018. He was born to Evelyn Shaw and Roosevelt Gray of Evergreen. He was a 1984 graduate of Evergreen High School. He had a passion for music and was a great D.J. He was a school bus driver, charter bus driver and an 18 wheel driver for many years.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Zebulah (Lena) Shaw, Sr. and Herman (Carrie) Gray.

Mr. Shaw is survived by his mother, Evelyn Shaw; father Roosevelt Gray; son, La’ Trenton Maye of Evergreen; four brothers, Alphonso Shaw, Rickie Gray, both of Evergreen, Tilton Gray of N. C., Christopher Gray of Tuscaloosa, Ala; three sisters, Gewanda (Fred) Fountain of Evergreen, Deona Gray, Latrace Gray of Los Angeles, Calif; three uncles, Henry James Shaw of Detroit, Mich., Zebulah (Annie) Shaw, Jr. and Robert Franklin, all of Evergreen; two aunts, Sarah (David) Dees of Evergreen and Henrietta G. Kirby of Arizona; nieces , nephews, relative and special friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Greater Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. John O. Meeks, Pastor officiating. Interment followed in Greater Nazarene Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his nephews and cousins.

Flower bearers were his cousins and friends.

Mildred Goldthrip

Ms. Mildred Goldthrip, age 64, of Evergreen, Ala., passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 at USA Medical Center in Mobile, Ala. She was born to the late Robert Leon Goldthrip and Maeola McCreary Goldthrip. She graduated Cooper’s Private School in Montgomery, Ala. at the age of 16. After a move to Evergreen she relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y. where she worked at Gimbel’s Department Store and did clerical work for a government agency and provided child care for her family. After moving back to Evergreen she was employed with B.C. Moore’s Department store. Unable to attend church because of her health she faithfully studied God’s word and read the Bible to its entirety each year.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ms. Goldthrip is survived by one sister, Vickey Goldthrip of Evergreen; brother, Michael (Kristal) Goldthrip of Cartersville, Ga.; three aunts, Viola Ambrister of Brooklyn and Delois Carlis of Evergreen; devoted cousins, Reginal Carlis, Frank and Jackie Leslie; devoted friends, Mary Hawthorne, Helen Mosley and Ruby Phillipi and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rhonda Merrill officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church No. 1 Cemetery in Tunnel Springs, Ala.

Pallbearers and flower bearers were her cousins and friends.
