Smith announces candidacy for House District 66

The following announcement of candidacy was submitted by the candidate.

Atmore, Ala – Councilwoman Susan Smith formally has announced she is running for the Alabama House of Representatives District 66 Seat. She made the announcement at a campaign event last night [July12] at the Royal Oaks Bed and Breakfast.
“I believe the people of Alabama deserve officials that want the same things they do,” said Councilwoman Smith. “As your representative, I will fight each day for you, the citizens of Alabama and a bright future for our children and grandchildren.”
Smith’s platform is focused on ensuring Alabamians have access to quality healthcare and education. These two basic needs are the necessary building blocks for successful economic development efforts to keep and bring new industry and retail businesses, which generate good-paying jobs for our hard working citizens.
Smith has devoted her life to serving the citizens of District 66 and the state of Alabama. Her past work provides an unmatched understanding of some of the most important issues our state faces. In addition to her extensive work in the public school system as Supervisor/Lead Nurse for 13 Public Schools, serving 2000 students and supervising 6 nurses, she has also worked with the American Red Cross Blood Services, Alabama Department of Corrections, Southwest Alabama Mental Health and W. F. Green Veterans Home. She is currently serving in her 2nd term on the Atmore City Council.
She and her husband, Clinton E. Smith, are longtime residents of Atmore and active members of the Atmore First United Methodist Church. They have three children and two grandchildren.
