Arrest of school bus driver confirmed

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks confirmed today (Wednesday May 2) that an Escambia County Schools bus driver was arrested this morning on a misdemeanor charge in connection with his physical accosting of a student on the bus.

Brooks said Arthur “Bud” Lambeth, 75, was charged in Atmore Municipal Court with one count of simple harassment.

Under Alabama Code 13-A-11-8, harassment occurs when a person, “with intent to harass, annoy, or alarm” another person “strikes, shoves, kicks, or otherwise touches a person or subjects him or her to physical contact.”

According to a Facebook posting by the mother of the student, her son — a student at Rachel Patterson Elementary School – reportedly had a sore on his face that was opened when the driver pushed him against a seat.

Lambeth posted bond and was released shortly after being processed, Brooks said.
