David Brian “Brutus” Vinson
Mr. David Brian “Brutus” Vinson, age 58, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in Fairhope, Ala. He owned and was Captain of Brutus Yacht Co.

He was born in Atmore to Vernon Burl and Betty Bryars Vinson. He graduated from Woodham High School and attended Pensacola Junior College.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Burl Vinson.

Mr. Vinson is survived by his mother, Betty Bryars Vinson of Atmore; one brother, Danny (Jessica Lajara) Vinson of Raleigh, N.C.; nieces and nephew, Ian Candelaria, Ansis Lajara and Sophia Lajara.

Graveside services were held Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Joseph Simpson and Bro. Ronnie Champion officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Robert H. Maxwell
Mr. Robert H. Maxwell, age 90, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, April 6, 2018. He graduated from Escambia County High School. He was a 1951 graduate of the University Of Alabama School Of Law and practiced that profession until his retirement in 1998.


He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Atmore where he served as trustee, choir member, Sunday school teacher and department superintendent.
He served in the United States Marine Corps and saw service in the South Pacific and in China.

While a student at The University of Alabama he held membership in Phi Eta Sigma scholarship fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega service group, Phi Alpha Delta legal organization, and Sigma Chi social fraternity. In the latter organization. He was a member of local and state bar associations, and in October, 1995 he was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States. He was a member of the Atmore Lions Club and Atmore Jaycees serving as president. He also served as state vice president of the Alabama Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was member and former chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Mobile, and from that university he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters in 2001.

He was an incorporator and founding director of United Bancorporation of Alabama, Inc., and for 29 years was a director and corporate secretary of United Bank. He served for 12 years as a member and secretary of the Utilities Board of the City of Atmore, and for a number of years he was a member of the Alabama State Oil and Gas Board. He was active in political affairs, having served as a member of the Escambia County Republican Executive Committee from its inception in 1962, and for 12 years he was a member of the Alabama counterpart of that committee. In 1998, he won the Republican primary election and contended for a seat on the Alabama Supreme Court.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Hattie Mallory King Maxwell and his four brothers, W. Randolph Maxwell of Miami, Fla., George T. Maxwell of Pensacola, Fla., Joseph W. Maxwell of Fairhope, Ala. and Dr. Benjamin C. Maxwell of Atmore; his parents, W.R. “Dolphie” Maxwell and Mary Talmadge Maxwell of Atmore.

Mr. Maxwell is survived by two sons, Richard King Maxwell (Bess) of Atmore and Dr. David Hamilton Maxwell (Jeanne) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; six grandchildren, Mallory M. Downey of Orange Beach, Ala., Richard Chapman Maxwell (Katie) of Atmore, Regina M. Allen (Carl) of Pelham, Ala., Amanda Bridges Maxwell of Greenville, S.C., Robert Hamilton Maxwell II and Kathryn Street Maxwell, both of Tuscaloosa; six great-grandchildren, Leslie Austin Downey, Harrison Maxwell Downey, Richard Warner Maxwell, Douglas Hamilton Maxwell, William Chapman Maxwell, Gilbert Talmadge Allen and numerous nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Atmore with the Rev. Arnold Hendrix, Jr. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.

The family received friends Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 1 until funeral time at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

Thomas “Tommy” Falk
Mr. Thomas “Tommy” Falk, age 64, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 in Nokomis, Ala. He was a native of Walnut Hill, Fla. and had resided in Nokomis since 1976. He retired as an Insulation Foreman, was an avid bass fisherman and Auburn fan. He was a member of the McCullough Christian Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Opal Falk and a brother, F.B. Sharpless, Jr.

Mr. Falk is survived by his two sisters, Sharon (Jerry) Poulsen of Walnut Hill and June (Roger, Sr.) McCann of Pensacola, Fla.; two special friends, Dot Nall and Sissy Phillips, both of Nokomis.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Cornelius Phillips officiating. Burial followed at the Walnut Hill Baptist Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, April 13, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Jerry Poulsen, Chris Poulsen, Tim Albritton, Matt Jordan and Ray Lee and Justin Morse.

Honorary pallbearers were William McCurdy, Adrian Smith, Buford Wiggins and Peanut McDonald.

Mildred Harris Fisher
Mrs. Mildred Harris Fisher, age 68, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018. She was born to James and Clara Harris in Oak Hill, Ala. She was a 1969 graduate of the Escambia County Training School. She was employed at Atmore Public Library for thirty-four years. She was a member of the House of God serving as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, and custodian. She was diligent in visiting those in hospitals, nursing homes and in homes of the disabled. She also enjoyed fishing.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Harris; husband, Charles Edward Fisher; sisters, Mary Stallworth, Annie Dale, Virginia Dale and Daisy V. Fields.

Deaconess Fisher is survived by her children, Marlon Fisher and Kareka Fisher; mother, Clara Harris; three sisters, Margaret Johnson, Linda (Ellis D) Stallworth and Juanita (David) Grissett; one brother, James (Ruth) Harris, Jr.; three Godchildren, Malaysia Williams, Lamaria Stallworth and Bryce Hansell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Diane (Ronald) Frazier, Andrew (Juanita) Thomas, Eleanor Fisher and Sarah (Joe) Giles; devoted family and friends, Gwendolyn Frye, Dorothy McGhee, Irma And George Moore, Inez Salter, Lula Mae Banks and Shirley Banks and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. at House of God with Elder Shirley Burnett-Dean, Pastor, officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Flower bearers were the Class of 1968.
