Ida L. Frye
Ms. Ida Lee English Frye, age 71, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at her residence. She was a native of Barth, Fla. and reared in Walnut Hill, Fla. She attended school in Cantonment, Fla. and was a 1964 graduate of Ransom High School.

She also attended Troy State University where she received her degree in Business Administration. She was a devoted member of Gaines Chapel AME Church serving as a Trustee. She was one of the leading beauticians in Atmore as the owner and operator of Fancy Fingers Salon and Boutique.

She was preceded in death by a son, Benny Frye, Jr.; her parents, Forest and Clara English; a brother, Timothy English; the father of her sons, Benny Frye, Sr., and a sister in law, Lillie English.

Ms. Frye is survived by her sons, Shacy (Lynn Hume) Frye of Atlanta, Ga, and Shelton Frye of Atmore; special companion, Tommy Thomas; three sisters, Alice (Russell) Bates of Stone Mountain, Ga., Judith (Alex) Johnson of Houston, Texas and Linda (Terry) Means of Pensacola, Fla.; six brothers, Ned English, Forest (Diane) English, Otis (Natalie) English, Benell (Jeanette) English all of Pensacola, Thomas (Helen) English of Charleston, N.C. Burnel (Diane) English of South Hampton, MA.; four grandchildren; two aunts; one uncle and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Gaines Chapel AME Church with Rev. Amos Smith, Pastor, officiating. Interment was held in Stallworth Cemetery.

Paula Kaye Bankster
Ms. Paula Kaye Bankster, age 41, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018. She was a native of Bay Minette, Ala. and resided in Mobile, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Bankster and Carrie McMillian and two half-brothers, Myron Bankster and Timothy Bankster.

Ms. Bankster is survived by her two sons, Duston French and Derrick Harris of Mobile, Ala.; one daughter, Tamara Bankster of Mobile; one half-brother, Ken Bankster of Stapleton, Ala.; two sisters, Carrie Monette (Darrell) Baker of Stapleton and Karen Elizabeth (Steve) Biggs of Robertsdale, Ala.; one half-sister, Vanessa Porter of Mobile; two grandchildren and step-father, Ed McMillian of Pine Grove, Ala.

Graveside services were held Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the John White Cemetery (Whitehouse Fork, Ala.) with Sis. Bonnie Howard officiating.

Pallbearers were Blake Biggs, Brandon Johnson, Dylan Vinson, Jonathan Baker, Eddie Harris and Carlteze Harris.

Christeen Morgan 
Mrs. Christeen Morgan, age 89, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018. She was born in Uriah, Ala. to the late Leonard and Ethel Ardis Glover.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Otha Douglas Morgan; sister, Olean Emmons and Ruth Cabiness and brothers, Eugene, Troy and Junior Glover.

Mrs. Morgan is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Randy) Peters and Fay (Glenn) Faircloth; grandchildren, Jason (Jamie) Peters and Brandon Peters; great-grandchildren, Emily, Michael, Zach and Scott; one brother, Clark (Marie) Glover; step-grandson, Andy (Stephani) Faircloth, step-great grandchildren, Sydney and Matthew; numerous nieces and nephews and a very special next door “Son” Joey Brown.

Her home going celebration was held Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Flannagin and Rev. Doug Odom officiating. Interment followed in Bratt Godwin Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jimmy McElhaney, Jerry McElhaney, Josh McElhaney, Chris McElhaney, Roy Ward, and Kevin Odom.

Honorary pallbearers were Scott Lee, Alvin Brown, James Bolton, John McCall, Ronnie Boone, Willie Peebles, David Johnson, Mike McCall, and Wayne Faircloth.

The family received friends Friday, March 16, 2018 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.

Conway Kennedy Dickinson
Mrs. Conway Kennedy Dickinson, age 88, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in Pensacola, Fla. She was born to the late Dr. Renwick Carlisle Kennedy and Mary Moore Kennedy in Charlotte, N.C. but was raised in Camden, Ala. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Atmore, member of United Methodist Women and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Erskine College and a retired schoolteacher. She and her husband owned and operated Dickinson Furniture.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence Edward “Dickie” Dickinson, Jr. and an infant son.

Mrs. Dickinson is survived by her daughter, Lee (Mickey) Cannon of Atmore; two sons, Richard Kennedy Dickinson of Gulf Shores, Ala. and Lawrence Edward “Ed” (Mary) Dickinson, III of Weldon Spring, MO.; her sister Margaret Ausley of Nokesville, VA.; five grandchildren, Melissa Terrell, Michael Cannon, Anne Kennedy Galvin, Lawrence “Ted” Dickinson, IV, Jennifer Catherine Dickinson and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 16, 2018 at 3 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Atmore with Rev. Brennan Peacock officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, March 16, 2018 from 2 until service time at 3 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Atmore.

In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Atmore “More Than Bricks” Fund.

Mary Margaret Etheridge
Mrs. Mary Margaret Etheridge, age 81, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 in Huxford, Ala. She was a native and life-long resident of Huxford. She was retired from Vanity Fair with forty plus years of service. She was a member of Huxford Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Eubie Etheridge and one sister, Sarah Abernathy.

Mrs. Etheridge is survived by her two sons, Barry (Rebecca) Etheridge of Huxford and Kevin (Janet) Etheridge of Ft. Worth, Texas; one brother, Jimmy (Deanie) Booker of Huxford; five grandchildren, Caleb Etheridge, Adam Etheridge, Loren Etheridge, Madlyn Etheridge and Clennon Daniel and close friend, Estelle Shumpert of Huxford.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. James Boyd officiating. Burial followed at Huxford Baptist Cemetery.

The family received friends Saturday, March 17, 2018 from 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Albert Williams, Jacob Williams, Randy Lucas, Eddie Booker, Todd Booker and Jamie Booker.

Hollie Wayne Thrower
Mr. Hollie Wayne Thrower, age 88, passed away Monday, March 12, 2018 in Atmore, Ala. He was a native of Trenton, Ala. and had resided in Atmore for the past seventy years. He was a Veteran of WWII, Korean War. He was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Thrower is survived by his son, A.L. “Snake” Thrower of Atmore; daughter, Sharon Thrower of Dayton, Texas; brother, Robert Glenn Thrower of Walnut Hill, Fla. and five grandchildren.

Burial was held at Walnut Hill Baptist Cemetery.

Henry “Bryant” Harris
Mr. Henry “Bryant” Harris, age 76, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Atmore, Ala. He was a native of Uriah, Ala. and resided in Atmore. He was of the Christian faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland and Gertrude Harris.

Mr. Harris is survived by two sons, James (Jessica) Harris and Travis (Cheryl) Harris, all of Atmore; one daughter, Melissa (Rickey) Lindsey of Bay Minette, Ala.; two brothers, Gene Harris of Loxley, Ala. and Billy Harris of Perdido, Ala.; one sister, Faye Jones of Loxley and five grandchildren.

Burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Jimmy Cunningham, Sr.
Mr. Jimmy Cunningham, Sr., age 51, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018.

Funeral services are incomplete at this time but will be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel LLC.

Bobbie Jean Roche
Bobbie Jean Thornton Roche, age 77, of Evergreen, Ala., passed away Monday, March 12, 2018. She was born in Evergreen to the late Anderson and Annie Mae (Nared) Thornton. She was a 1958 graduate of Conecuh County Training School. She attended Reid State Technical School receiving her certificate of Certified Professional Child Care. She was a member of Sparta Hill United Methodist Church services as a Sunday school teacher and musician. She was owner of Bobbie and Guy (B&G) Day Care.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Willie Mae Davis, Ola C. Woods and Georgia M. Thornton; granddaughter, Jamekia Wiley; father-in-law, Alex Roache, Sr.; three sisters-in-law, Lillie Mae Danzy, Juanita Roache, Deloris Roache and one brother-in-law, Alex Roache.

Minister Roche is survived by her husband, Guy Roche; five children, Netter (Jason) Wiley, Vanessa (Fred) Drakeford, Regina Bryant (Marvin), all of Evergreen, James Roche of Titus, Ala., CoSandra (Jerome) Dent of Marietta, Ga. and one godchild, Monicia (Mario) Rankins of Riverdale, Ga.; three sisters-in-law and many grand and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews as well as two godsons; special friends, David and Freda Murphy.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Johnson, Pastor and Rev. Joe Hayes officiating. Interment followed at Sparta Hill United Methodist Church.

Pall bearers were her nephews and friends.

Flower bearers were her nieces and friends.

Scotty Ray Hardy
Mr. Scotty Ray “Unk” Hardy, age 67, passed away Friday, March 11, 2018. He was born to the late Jody Harris and Annie Hardy-Woods in Brewton, Ala. He was a 1969 graduate of Southern Normal High School. He relocated to Jersey City, N.J. where he worked at Frys Metals Inc, and moved back to Brewton working for the Escambia County Sheriff’s office. He joined Second Saint Siloam Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Stacey Hardy.

Mr. Hardy is survived by one daughter, Stacey Dickens of Jersey City; one son, Terry Hardy of Brewton; six grandchildren, Nykeem Barton, Nakiya Hardy, Neisha Hardy, Destiny Dickens, Janiya Harvey and Elisha Hardy; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Sylvia Riley, Frankie (Samson) Chatham of Brewton, Francine Harris and Lillie Ruth Harris of Texas; one aunt, Doris McConnico; one uncle, Leonard (Hattie) McConnico, Brewton; Godchild, Maliyah Spears; devoted special friend, Ms. Jessie Hodges along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends and very special great-great-nephew, BJ.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 16, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Second Saint Siloam Baptist Church, Brewton with Pastor Willie J. Blue officiating. Interment followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his nephews and cousins.

Flower bearers were his granddaughters and nieces.

Mr. Eddie Dukes of Evergreen, Ala., passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at his home.
