Busted for meth, pills (UPDATED)

A February 16 traffic stop along a northeast Atmore street resulted in the arrests of two Atmore men on drug possession and other charges.

The traffic stop took place around 8 a.m. near the intersection of Maxwell Street and Brooks Lane, when Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dereck Lowry noticed a pickup truck with an expired tag traveling in the area.

A subsequent search of the truck turned up a 20-ounce Coca-Cola bottle filled with a liquid substance believed to be a solution of methamphetamine, along with a small amount of cooked meth (folded into a dollar bill) and a bag that contained about two dozen Xanax tablets.

A handgun and a glass pipe were also recovered from the truck, and an undisclosed amount of cash was seized.

The truck’s passenger — Brice Thunder Jackson, 18, of a Jack Springs Road address — reportedly admitted that the drugs were his, but the driver — 26-year-old Hunter Scott Colbert of a Deerfield Road address — reportedly told deputies that he was aware the drugs were in the vehicle.

Jackson, who apparently tried to take some type of unspecified contraband into the county jail with him, is charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, third degree promoting prison contraband and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Colbert is charged with one count each of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to an employee of the county jail’s booking and release division, both suspects were released after posting separate bonds of $5,000.
