Martin Luther King observance planned

Dr. Martin Luther King,. Jr. Holiday Observance in Atmore will begin on Friday, January 12, and conclude Monday, January 15.

This year’s national theme is “Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day on…Not A Day Off.”

The schedule of events is as follows:

Friday, January 12
MLK Community Day of Service – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Atmore Community Day of Service will be held at the Unity House on 313 N Main Street. This will be a day to assist families and individuals get a good hot meal, food, clothes, shoes, household items, linen, furniture, paint and other items at no cost. If you know someone in need, please spread the word.

Saturday, January 13
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Unity Prayer Breakfast – 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Atmore Community Hospital Mason Auditorium

Cost for breakfast is $12 per person.

Tickets may be purchased from a Concerned Citizens of Atmore member or you can pay at the door.

Monday, January 15
MLK Parade / March and Events

The Parade will line up at Houston Avery Park from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. The parade will start at 10 a.m. Parade entry fee is $10 per unit (floats and vehicles). Funds will be used to serve the community’s needs. All floats entered into the parade float contest will be judged prior to the parade. First place and second place trophies will be awarded.

Parade applications are available at the Unity House in the mailbox. All applications must be complete with a copy of your insurance attached. All applications must be turned in by Friday January 12, 2018 before 7 p.m.
