Juvenile, 13, charged with residential burglary

A juvenile — reportedly a 13-year-old boy — was taken into custody December 5 by Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies who responded to a burglary call just outside the Poarch community.

According to sheriff’s reports, deputies were sent to an address on Atmosphere Road after dispatchers relayed a report of a burglary in progress. The homeowner had returned home and had been told by his neighbor that someone had crawled out the window of the home, so the man went through the house and was unable to locate anyone. He did, however, find a window that was open.

Deputies arrived and began to search the area for the possible suspect or suspects who had burglarized the residence. A juvenile was found in the near vicinity of the residence and was taken into custody after lawmen determined that he was the person who made illegal entry into the residence.

The adolescent suspect was charged with burglary. Alabama law prohibits the publication of a juvenile’s name or mug shot unless the juvenile is charged as an adult.

The case remained under investigation as midweek approached.
